Per NEH guidelines, all tenured or tenure-track applicants must be nominated by their institutions. (Non-tenure-track faculty, adjunct faculty, staff and retired faculty are exempt from nomination). Previous VCU applicants are eligible to reapply.

The NEH Summer Stipends Program aims to stimulate new research in the humanities and its publication by providing small awards to individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. View full application information.

Complete proposals following NEH guidelines should be submitted by email to by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2020. As in previous years, proposals will be reviewed by an internal panel and the two candidates selected for nomination will be notified by Friday, September 4, 2020. At that time, constructive feedback will be provided by the review panel, so the two nominees can revise and then submit their applications to NEH by the official deadline of September 23, 2020.
