Kathy Bassard

We are pleased to announce Dr. Kathy Bassard has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Rhodes College in Memphis effective July 1, 2020.

A search for a new associate dean will be conducted in the spring and Kathy has agreed to help with the transition. We'd like to thank Kathy for her years of service in the classroom as an award-winning scholar and as an academic leader.

Kathy joined VCU as an associate professor of English in 1999 where she excelled in the classroom and as a scholar of early African American literature. Her achievements as an administrator and leader have been equally as impressive: Department of English chair, interim CHS associate dean of faculty affairs and senior vice provost for faculty affairs. Her service on committees at every level of the university are too numerous to list.

Kathy has been and is an incredible role model for our students, as well as for faculty and administrators. Her impact on VCU, including our students, academic programs and faculty success, will persist for many years. She is an absolutely wonderful person and colleague. Rhodes College will soar under her leadership. We wish her success, good fortune and health, and a continued wonderful life.
