It is with great sadness that we share the death of our valued colleague, Tama (Tammy) Hynson. Tammy had more than 28 years of service with the College of Humanities and Sciences and served for the last 17 years in her role as a financial administrator. Tammy was known by colleagues for her willingness to help and assist with any financial processes or needs.
Tammy’s connection with VCU began years earlier when she attended the university as a special education major in the mid-1970s. She also served in the United States Marine Corps. Tammy is survived by a brother and a nephew.
This unexpected loss is a shock for all of us. We hold Tammy and her family in our thoughts, as well as our fiscal team who worked so closely with her.
We will keep you updated with any plans for services or other information as it becomes available.
We encourage you to take care of yourself to process this loss–using the university’s bereavement resources, or taking advantage of the university’s Employee Assistance Program, which provides counseling resources. University Counseling Services also has counseling resources for staff. Danielle Hairston, director of human resource administration, is also available if you would like to speak with her.
As we process this loss together, please let us know how the dean’s office can help you in any way.
