D'arcy Mays, Ph.D.
D’Arcy Mays, Ph.D., is the senior executive associate dean for administration and analytics in the College of Humanities and Sciences. In this role, he oversees the administration of all graduate programs in the College and collaborates closely with leaders in finance, human resources, technology and communications to ensure the College remains in compliance with institutional and regulatory reporting requirements. Mays is also a tenured professor in statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He has received the College’s Distinguished Teaching Award, was named a Fellow of the Virginia Academy of Sciences, and earned the Southern Regional Council on Statistics (SRCOS) Paul Minton Service Award in recognition of his distinguished service to the organization and the broader statistics community.
His research focuses on experimental design and response surface methodology, particularly the development of optimal designs when the assumption of homogeneous variance is violated. His work has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including the Journal of Quality Technology and the Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation. In addition, he has served on numerous master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation committees, contributing to research that has resulted in publications across a wide range of disciplines.
Mays earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Virginia Tech.
