Margot Moser might not be from Richmond originally, but she quickly fell in love with the city when she relocated three years ago. “Richmond is a great city, there's great food and I love the artsy feel and the aesthetic of the city and its residents,” said Margot. During the day, you’ll find her serving as office manager for the Department of Political Science, but at night you’ll catch her taking in the local theater scene or hitting up her favorite hidden local gem, the rock ‘n roll bar Fuzzy Cactus.

What is your role here at VCU? What do your daily tasks look like as an office manager?
I am the office manager for the Department of Political Science. As for my daily responsibilities, I help with procurement, ordering supplies, working on things to help the office run smoothly and staying on top of the printer. I’m also essentially the assistant to the chair, so he will sometimes delegate tasks to me and I’ll do whatever is needed. I also supervise the student workers, help plan events for the department, as well as manage all the fiscal stuff. It’s a lot of hodge-podge. I always say my position is basically all the stuff that needs to be done but it’s not really anybody's job.
When did you get to VCU and what brought you here?
I moved to Richmond around three years ago. At the time, I was working for a different company, and when they asked us to come back to the office after the pandemic, I said I’d rather go to the office in Richmond. I decided I wanted to go to Richmond because it’s a great city, there's great food and I found that VCU was an opportunity for me. I heard they had a great reputation as an employer so I found this position on Indeed, applied for it and now I’ve been here for two years.
What do you think is special about being a RAM? What does this campus have that makes them stand out from the rest?
The city itself and the campus just being so integrated, is very unique. The student body is really special. I’ve found there’s a lot of diversity – both in the faculty and the student body – which you don’t see at every university. I’ve really enjoyed working with such a diverse population of people. I think that’s what’s really special about being a RAM.
What are things that you are passionate about in your life?
I would say my biggest passion is theater, I’m a big theater person. I like to act in community theater productions; It's always something I loved. I haven’t quite gotten into any productions here yet, but last October I was in the play “Misery.” I’m actually planning on using my tuition benefit to do my B.F.A. in theater here. I’ve also always been a big reader, I basically read anything but nonfiction.
If you could experience anything for the first time in your life again what would it be?
If I could experience anything for the first time again I’d be a college student. I had a really hard time being an undergrad, mostly because being exposed to so many ideas at once is such a mind-expanding experience. It would just end up being a lot sometimes. At the same time, your brain is really stimulated but the day-to-day can get a little boring. If I knew a lot of what I know now I think I would’ve really enjoyed my college experience a little more.
